Drag racing toys were very popular in the early 70's, Matchbox did as many if not more than Corgi, Dinky did just the one I think (the rail with the chute). I'll post some pics later.

My Dad has the full corgi collection all mint with boxes. I will try to post some pictures later.

He also has the dinky slingshot with the launcher boxed too.

I had the Capri funny car as a child, it was green with flames.

Matchbox Superfast also created some great little cars i still own, like a Pontiac firebird with a raised cowl hood and racing stickers.

There was recently a Britains drag bike on eBay, these are pretty rate.

Hot wheels, thats a whole different story...

I used to have a big collection of M&B vintage Corgi models but I sold well over half of them ten years ago. I've still got Glo-Worm and Commuter mint with the box and the other Corgi dragsters chipped and playworn from my childhood.
Matchbox did - Bazooka, Gus' Gulper, Milligan's Mill etc .. plus a stack of 75 series stuff with blowers and big n' little's - plus the muscle cars Flying Toilet mentions.
Tonight I'll get a few pics together if I get a sec ..

They're not the cars we recognise from the early days of SPR granted. But like I said in an earlier post, drag racing and muscle car inspired model cars were very popular in the 70's. Here's just a few of the many Matchbox made -
