Thu 6th to Sun 9th September 2018 – Santa Pod Raceway UK.
I make no excuse for starting with 4 shots of the 2018 European Top Fuel champion and star of the event Anita Mäkelä and team
The team were in a class of their own all weekend. Not only did they run every session, night and day. They did it with style and with entertaining consistency. A whole bunch of storming 3-second runs including a new
European ET record of 3.87 seconds got them a well-deserved championship and event win.
It doesn’t seem that long ago we were waiting for ages for a 5-second top fuel bike run in Europe and now we are really spoilt with runs that are often in the world’s top 20 quickest of all time.
Here’s Filippos Papafilippou on his way to another of the top 10 quickest passes with a stunning 5.81 at 240mph
Not a 5-second runner but longtime racer Steve Woollatt took the win in Top Fuel Bike.
Steve still runs incredible low sixes with a 30-year-old chassis built by John Clift in 1988 and with approximately 20% less capacity compared to many of his competitors.
Jndia Erbacher continues to impress in Top Fuel Dragster and made it to the final running her first 3-second pass on the way on the way.
Kevin Kent was excellent in Fuel Funny car and took the event win
Jason Phelps providing everyone with some great photo opportunities on Friday night
Jean Dulamon travels a long way to the pod and enters most meetings. He also perseveres with a tricky nitrous setup that sometimes goes wrong.
Here’s a wider shot of one of his mishaps.
When it does go right it runs quick and the flames coming out of the right places are fantastic to see.
Not my best photograph but the only one I got of Kev Slyfield with limited trackside access on his way to an excellent 6.0284 @ 230mph and also the farmer’s field when his chutes never deployed.
Only a week after it’s debut the ICE Automotive boys were testing the Pro Mod in CompEliminatorr at the finals.
I really wanted a big 2 car burnout shot for this photograph but at least caught Andy Robinson.
Roger Johansson carried his excellent Tierp performance into Santa Pod and ran 5.7942@245.01 mph
Jon Webster got his tasty Mustang down into the sixes.
Dennis took the Top Methanol win.
Beating one of my favourite cars in drag racing in the A-Fuel dragster of Jonny Lagg
Everytime Eric runs we are something that might (probably) never be beaten. He ran an astounding 286.87 mph in just 5.245 seconds
Something I tried for the night show that almost worked.
Who doesn’t love Supertwin Bike? Ronny Aasen on the Zodiac Harley called The God Father VII making plenty of flame, noise and speed.
1/120 of a second is just enough to capture both banks lit in the daytime.
Michel Torren’s Plymouth Barracuda into the fives to the delight of every true drag racing fan.
Austin Jaques Super Pro Ford Capri staging.
How cool. Marie Madleen Rosen from Germany on her 250cc Honda – Harley Style
Chris Newsam MG Rover runs in Modurstang Pro ET
Katie Ellis and her JNR Dragster.
The Mugridge Motorsport Chevy Camaro burning out.
Neil Midgley on the Canon Motorsport Supertwin
David Fulton’s 1969 Camaro looking good on the morning sun.
Jemma Venables on her second from last race ever.
Crap shot but a very cool bike. Allan Davies on the Puma Twin – Surprise Attack
Erich Gruber from Austria sits on his phone looking at his favourite website, ukdrn
