Having stumbled upon this forum less than a month ago i was surprised to see a topic ref to my adventures in Juara. The name Juara came from a prawn trawler boat that i crewed on out of the Gulf of Carpenteria here in Australia, many years ago. Yes the car was built by Harold Bull and was kindly lent to me by Clive Skilton on the previso that when i had finished with it, i was to return it to him which i did in either 1979 or 1980.
For those readers that have an interest in my life so far, i have been extremely fortunate in my racing career over here, as i was in Europe. I ran my alcohol car here for 3 seasons with 1 Championship and 2 runner up places and was then approached by Santo Rapisarda as he wanted me to drive his Top Fuel car. This partnership continued for 11 successful years until the time came when i had the opportunity to run my own team with my soon to be wife Heather. We purchased and campaigned the ex Gary Clapshaw "Spirit of Las Vegas" dragster which in itself held it's own piece of history having given Don Garlits his first ever 3OOmph + run. We ran this successful race car for just short of two years and then it made its last pass. The details of that meeting can be found on our website which is http://www.readspeedracing.com.au and you can also find footage of the last pass on youtube. We are now running another car and are preparing for its second meeting in February. We will be doing live updates from the track to our website but you will need to register to access this.
I felt that i had to post this information as somebody who posted on this forum had the facts wrong. Regards, Steve Read

Apologies for the incorrect factual error regarding the ‘Spirit of Las Vegas’ Fuel car, but welcome to the forum anyway. I’m sure we’ll all be following your progress with the new car as you still have many fans over here following the racing down under. Good luck next month.

Jerry

Hi Jerry, my reply was based on the fact that i had not cut up the Juara chassis but had returned it. It has been interesting reading the topics on this forum and i am glad i have found it. Bye for now, Steve.

Further to my original post stating that the Revolution 2 chassis was cut up and skipped. I read with interest what Steve says but both I and my brother Robin are aware of the facts. The car is no more.

As a result of the implication that I am lying about the facts surrounding these posts I have been in contact with none other than Clive Skilton himself. I copied the statements made my my younger brother and told him what I know to be the truth. He confirmed that, as he had lived in California, Usa since October 1976 there was no possibility that the car or chassis had been returned to him in 1979 or 1980. I'm sure that anyone wishing to lay this to rest could contact him just as I did. If "the facts" are required one should not rely to heavily on those emanating from down under!

Hi Steve - remember me - Liz Burn! I read your news on how you are doing these days and had also heard about you from Baz Young (Desperado), who I am now in contact with again ( as well as many others on this site) after all these years, which is fantastic. When I started taking an interest in the sport again last year, I was amazed at how many of the racers I knew back then are still involved with the sport after all these years!
The reason I am telling you all this rubbish, is myself and husband Peter have just booked our flights to spend 6 weeks touring around Australia from 1st November, starting in Sydney. It would be great if we bumped into you at a race meeting there, perhaps you could let me know if there are any race dates around that time. I might even bring Brian's "Crazy Horses" with me for you to sign! 'Bye for now. Liz
