Steve Goode was the last person to drive this car i(martin Holgate ) and my crew helped him get it down the track ,it blew the intakes apart on the one and only run if i remember correctly.

Hi Martin,

I know Steve had the car for quite a while so supprised he only made one run & of course I'm aware of some issues with the car being returned. Don't know the detail and don't think i want to drag it up either. Would like to know what mods Steve made to the car I assumed he put a different transmission in it. If you see Steve let him know I'm restoring it and ask him to get in touch. He might be able to fill in some of the blanks. From the look of Wobble he's got his hands full this year, his car looks insane and awsome.

Nice to here from you Sid, Rebuild is making progress but as usual slower than I'd like. Rear axle and short motor are now back in the frame all rebuilt, painted and looking pretty (well the axle will be by the end of this weekend). I may need to take you up on the flywheel but I'm not yet decided on which gearbox to use so not so sure about the clutch.

I've got an old Moss box but its so damn heavy. I've also got a Getrag box as fitted to the later jags, its much lighter and its supposed to be as strong. the Getrag box has the fine 23 spline input shaft, the Moss has the much courser 10 spline. Either way i've got to fabricate a steel bellhousing to suit so not quite ready for the clutch yet.

Do I need a steel bellhousing or can I run a cast one with a frabricated burst shield?

The new body arrives for an afternoon next week to check it fits OK, then it goes straight back for paint.

I've also been debating whether to run the car on Methanol from the off or start with petrol. It used to run mid to low 11s on methanol not sure what it would do running petrol.

Heres a question for you, if I use an ali fuel tank and later switch to methanol, is the methanol going to corrode it? stainless is so much more expensive!

Also I wouldn't mind a few pointers on where I can get a good ditributor system?

great news!! sounds like its coming together nicely..

alky will corrode aluminium but if you drain the system and oil it. (wd 40 or another brand) it wont.

you can use an aluminium bellhousing.

my recomendation for a distributer would be a magneto! :) .

ill have a root around and let you know what clutchs i have.

Hi Sid,

Just a small update, the guys came round today to check the body fit. Good job they did the rear steel frame support points where 100mm out of position so it was back to the shop for some mods this afternoon. Hope to get them back by the end of the week.

I've posted a pic of the car as it is now, I was hoping to put one up with the body on but it was not to be. Maybe next time.

Thanks for the advice on the bellhousing, but seeing as my ankles will be a couple of inch's away from the flywheel I think I'll go ahead with the steel bellhousing. can't be too difficult to make (can it)!

I've never used a Magneto before and wouldn't know where to start in terms of findnig one that will fit into my engine. I don't suppose you've got the one off of Wobble have you? I guess you'll be using that on your project anyhow.

Take a quick look at the pick, I'll post one with the body on next time.

Thanks for the encouragement

Thanks for the offer Sid its appriciated.

Theres still a lot of work to do to the car and its just little old me doing it all at the moment + family committments too. In reality the cars not going to be ready until early to mid next year. My plan is to use what I can of next year to shake everything down (including myself) and hope to hit a near full season in 2010.

One thing I did want to ask you though, you probably don't know but I work for Jaguar and Land Rover development running some of the test facilities. I've been talking to one of the directors about my car (he's a Jag man through and through) and we were wondering if 2 or 3 of the guys running XK units would be interested in displaying their cars in the engineering centres at Coventry & Gaydon for a week or so. I'm sure I could arrange a tour around some of the test facilities in return. What do you think, would anybody be interested? let me know.

Just reread this post,,,,,,,years ago we ran a distributor and coil and it works,,,,,plus side its cheap minus side you have to run a battery ,but then they have to selfstart anyway,,,,,,,,,low to mid 11s???????????????? do you think that could have been low to mid 12s,,,,,,,,,,,dont want to pee on your parade its just that i know how hard it was to run an 11,,,,hope im wrong :D :D :D :D
