This was taken on the press day at Silverstone on the 10th September 1963. It was prior to the Brighton Speed Trials on the 14th, and the sprint meetings at Church Lawford and Debden the following weekend. This was the race series that kick-started drag racing in the UK as it featured Dante Duce and Mickey Thompson.

Curiously, the photo has the two top UK motorcycle sprint riders, Alf Hagon and George Brown, sitting in the cockpits.

I'm pretty sure that pic was taken on 8th April 1964 when the Allard Dragons debuted at a press launch at Silverstone. The 10th Sept 1963 date was when Dante Duce first ran Mooneyes against the Allard Chrysler and the Dragons hadn't been built then. The pic shows them before the roll cages were modified with another couple of hoops. The one on the right is the same car that Alan Smith still owns.
