Stu Bradbury wrote:All the guys who ran these little 2.5 Daimler engines are a tribute to British engineering at its best. Is it wonder that most all race car engines in other forms of motorsport in the world also use British companies and engineers to build the best race engine's for FI, NASCAR, Indy Car and so on. My career in the Automotive Industry has brought me in contact with many so called engine builders in other Countries who you wouldn't rely on to change a spark plug, let alone build something of exellence as Russ Carpenter, Robin Read and others have developed. There are no parts books or information for these engines, only sheer brain power and engineering. If you have never heard one of these little fuel engines before, Dragstalgia is the place to be on the 14-15th July.
Well said Stu!
I have stood in the stands at several race tracks in the USA and tried to explain the phenomenal performance Russ, Robin, John Whitmore an Harold Bull and when I have converted engine size to their cubic inch value "experts" shake their heads in disbelief!
Looking forward to Dragstalgia to hear Robin's car again!

Hi I am Roy Jaggar ,I bought the car Topaz as a rolling chassis in the early 70s fitted a 2.5 daimler and raced it in the name of Sues Blues for 18 months . I scrapped that car and only kept the dropped front axle and the wheels. Then built from scatch a new chassis and fitted a Bond Bug body from a scrap car lenthened by 18" ,painted it white and named it DOODLE BUG .Later modifications new paint job, fully balanced engine, triumph 750 Bonniville pistons, Russ Carpenter full race cam, 4 bolt mains , and full set of alloys. I sold the car to a person in Barry south Wales in the late 80s and never heard anything since .It was never the Metronome. It was very nice to see some old pictures of the car and glad it got noticed .Best time was 10.96 at 123 mph

It was my Mate Brian Miller (No longer with us) that bought the car from you, we ran it down LLandow one day (Not one of our events, just us) he did a couple of runs down the track and I think it started to rain so that was that.
As I said in my other post, Brian wanted to give me the chassis but I did not have anywhere to keep it, so he ended up selling it to someone down the west country, less the engine and box. I have always wondered what happened to the car aand if its still stored away somewhere. His son Ifan is into rodding and drag racing and would love to be able to find it.
