Simon Cooper's blown Nova looks interesting piece of kit. I wonder if we'll get to see the new Pro Chevy of Paul Watts next weekend?

Supercharged Outlaw racer Dave 'Fuzzie' McKenzie has sent us the following preview to the weekend's action at Shakey.

t’s has been a long winter but now it’s that time of the year when the Supercharged Outlaws will be coming out to entertain you! The first round traditionally has a low turnout but this year the series has a bumper entry of 12 cars.

Last year’s series winner Paul Watts will be back out to defend his number one plate and has been working hard all winter on his new 7/8th scale 57 Chevy. However the burning question like the test weekend is which car is Paul bringing to Yanks; the Chevy Stepside truck or the new Chevy! You’ll have to be at Yanks to find out.

So who’s in the frame to try and stop Paul from taking the number 1 plate and a hat trick of wins? Let’s take a look at the challengers. Number one contender must be the ever consistent slingshot of Vic Hammond driven by Sam Freeman. The Speed Demon ran a PB at the Test & Tune in April so that must surely be a sign that the dynamic duo mean business this year! And what about the other father & son team of Alec & Coe! The Mad R’s team ran the car into the sevens consistently and could be worth a bet.

What about the unknowns. This weekend we have to give a warm welcome to Roger Cooper & his son Simon who has joined the Outlaws for 2012. Simon will be driving an imported big block Chevy Nova which might just be the dark horse this year.

Richard Davis with the immaculate Willys Coupe is so consistent and could win this year. Richard narrowly missed out a couple of seasons ago by being on holiday and missing a round.

And let’s not forget the altereds as well. Lee Gallimore has a fresh motor in the Red Mist Model T and after a mad thrash last week Lee managed to run the motor up at Mallory Park as well as a burnout on the back straight. Lee went from Mallory very happy. Talking of Mallory the altered of Dave McKenzie and Mark Windridge were in attendance as well with Dave putting down a storming burnout and for a change went arrow straight! The team now hopes that they have cured the small block powered altered handling problems.

Will this be Steve Goode’s year? Steve has had a lot of bad luck since importing the Ghost Train body for his Funny Car. But no doubt Steve will be a strong contender this year as we eagerly a wait to see the car in the six second zone. Another Funny Car which encountered a lot of problems last year was Trace Froome’s Ultra Racing Daytona. Trace should have the car sorted soon with help from Mark Windridge following some tuning tips given at the recent Long Marston Model Air Show which should see the car perform at Yanks.

Another crowd pleaser will be Andy Hadfield with the Twister. Andy never knows went to lift but is eager to see the car into the sevens hopefully this weekend. Ian Hanson has entered but at the time of writing he’s not sure which car he will be driving. Ian has the Stars and Stripes Corvette programmed to appear at the Main Event, but also has a small block Chevy altered! We’ll have to wait and see which car rolls up in the pits.

The final entry is Clive Bush. Clive has been working hard on the altered for a couple of years now and although the car’s been at the track he’s been unable to make a pass due to many problems. So fingers crossed for Clive this weekend.

So if you like your Supercharged dragsters then get down to Shakespeare County Raceway this weekend as the entertainment is sure to be wild with there big long smoky burnouts and storming guard rail to guard rail passes. Drop in at the Supercharged Outlaw pits and have a chat. We are the friendliest group of racers around.
Oh and by the way we’ve had a word upstairs and he’s promised us SUNSHINE!!

This year the Outlaw class is again sponsored by Jim Maher of Good Vibrations, California along with Stamford Speed Shop, LA Commercials, Motorshack, Escape Design, Mad R’s Drag Racing and Academy Glass.

Following Andy Murton’s first dip into the 8 second zone at the recent Street Nationals you can bet your bottom dollar that he’ll be out to set the same standard at Shakey with his street driven ’68 Chevy Camaro. Andy’s fellow racers from Outlaw Street will be at the strip as well. As many as 25 hard as nails American inspired street cars! Bring it on.

Don’t forget people the track will be opening this Friday at Yanks from 12.00 noon to 5.00pm for Run What Ya Brung for cars running on street tyres and silencers but please note that the track won’t be prepped but will have the usual day’s sweep and drag of the rubber sled. Full prep will be available on Saturday & Sunday. All street cars (American or otherwise) only are welcome. Gates officially open at 8.00 am Friday. There will be an element of a pit plan in place which will come into force on Friday am. After a slow start we had some great action here all day at until Mick Gould done the launch of the day, the car got away from him on the centre line and he gave the armco a good whack at half track.
Luckily Mick was okay but the armco needed repairing and with little time left the day was called early although I must add the armco did exactly what it was meant to do with no dramas at all.

Who knows what's going to happen tomorrow so if you fancy a great day out tomorrow then take a visit to shakey but bring the sun block :)
