That’s an excellent find JayTee. Although I can’t read the small print, Sammy ran a ‘72 Ford Mustang Funny car built by John Buttera before that, but the Miller Duster you have uncovered gave Sammy his first and only NHRA Wally at the inaugural NHRA ‘71 Grandnationals in Canada.

Apparently, the car ran again in season ‘72 but it caught fire at the NHRA Nationals burning Sammy quite badly. Two years later, Sammy returned again with another Mustang but later sold it a few months in to finance his rocket car project after a chance drive with the ‘Pollution Packer’ rocker dragster.

I've just come across a snippett whilst looking for something else in the 76 CC's. Sammy Miller running a rocket powered Mach 1 Mustang bodied funny named Captain America. There is a black and white pic but so poor not worth scanning really.

My guess is that’s Al Eirdam in this photo from the Patrick Salt collection!

if what I've been told is correct

that stang is the old Chicago Patrol body, driven (amongst many) by Pat Foster and Dale Pulde, was converted back to a normal funny car before being imported to these shores by Keith Bartlett and Stu Vallance, run as the Liquidator, Mike Burt as Iron Horse then War Horse, we ran it as Time Machine 3 and it is now owned by Paul Stubbings and Wendy Baker

That's what I love about the forum, finding out things like that.

And here's what we'll remember Sammy for. The back of his T-shirt says it all really. Achievements galore :D

Here’s another scan from John Long of the 1972 ‘Drag Racing USA’ article posted originally by jaytee earlier this week. Its certainly interesting to note just how many nitro Funny Cars Sammy actual ran before moving upwards to rocket power.
