Here's a little bit of info concerning the Allard Chrysler which is not in the excellent Crazy Horses. Sydney Allard appeared at the Third Drag Sprint to be held at Church Fenton on the 23rd September 1962 organised by the BARC. The car ran 11.54 over the quarter and 20.86 over the kilo.

Into 1963, and the Allard again entered Long Marston on the 23rd June. Another sprint meeting it attended that year was Church Lawford on the 4th August organised jointly by the National Sprint Association and the Allard Owners Club. Sydney set FTD at 10.91. Another NSA member racing was Allan Herridge who could only manage 14.42 due to excessive wheel spin. A third NSA who should have appeared was Tony Densham in the Worden, but the engine could not be readied in time.

Thought I would post a pic of the trophy as it is today. The SEMA plate on the front was replaced in 1970 when Alan Allard gave it to the BDR&HRA to be presented annually to the winner of the International Meet.

does anyone know how the Allard Chrysler dragster was fired up as it wasn't until 1964 that a push-bar was fitted along with an extra brace between the roll bar hoops so the chute could be mounted higher up out the way. This pic from '63 shows it with a battery next to it so I'm guessing the hemi had an electric starter motor originally......

According to David Hooper it did have a starter which is how we plan to fire up the restored car. I'm told that the chute mount was moved because it wouldn't deploy effectively in its lower position.

thanks for that Brian, according to the Kool Kams report on the '63 Silverstone meet the chute wouldn't deploy till the car stopped, when it fell unceremoniously to the ground, which backs up what you say as to why they moved the mount up 8)

Well, that photo explains well why those type of exhaust headers were known as weedsweepers :)
