Hi Ritchie
In fact the Street Rover cars were running faster than you think- Adrian Booth ran an 11.006/131 and Jez Atkinson an even quicker 10.94 at the Aug 8th meet in 1992 at York. This was on very sticky "street legal" treaded tyres remember .....

Will this do Ritchie. Ian Hampstead photographed by Brian Adams at Avon Park 1994. I seem to recall that this MK1 Escort was a real screamer against Steve Green's Cortina.

Looking through some of the first season race reports (1986) and programmes I have noticed that the class as a championship (JWR/Street Machine Rover V8 Championship) didn’t get its own billing in the Pod programmes other than the drivers entered were running in the BDRA Roadster class. Was the championship not officially recognised by the RAC (now MSA) or the clubs (BDRA & NDRC & PDRC)?

So the 1986 JWR/Street Machine Rover V8 Championship dates were:
May 4th/5th - Santa Pod Raceway - 2nd Labour Day Nationals (DNF - See page 1 report)
June 7th/8th - North Weald Drag Strip - Southern Nationals
July 26th/27th - Santa Pod Raceway - Summer Nationals
August 9th/10th - York Dragway - Northern Nationals
Sept 27th/28th - Long Marston Raceway - Autumn Finals (Championship Finals)

Ian Hampstead's escort in that late guise was an absolute rocket! I think it held the class et record for a while .. it's a bit of an old tubed custom too with those rear lights and frenched plate!
I've got quite a few rover pics from the york rounds, I'll scan a few ..
