OK, guys. No doubt many (most?) of you have seen the Led Zep movie "The Song Remains the Same." It features neat footage of motorhead John Bonham driving his street machine and -- ostensibly -- driving Clive Skilton's fueler. Did Bonham really drive the car after the burnout? Did he do the burnout? Or was he just filmed in it and then Clive took over? If John did drive the car, even to a 20 second shutoff or whatever, I would love to list those times on draglist... (they would go well with Jay Leno's 11 second shutoff in Mark Pawuk's Pro Stocker of a few years ago). How about it? Were any of you there that day? bp

Although it would be a better story if Bonham drove it I think it's very unlikley as just stepping into a Top Fuel car and doing a full burnout and run I would have thought was impossible. We have had very experienced drivers like Tiff Niddell drive big dragsters and profess to be terrified, DLT eventually drove a Top Fuel car but he looked pretty timid to start with and that was after a few years of driving Tender Trap.

I do remember an intervue with Clive Skilton a few years later and his saying that when he started racing in the US he got Zep fans approaching him in the pits because they thought he was John Bonham {well he had a beard}!

Sorry if the old memory banks are on overload, but I am almost sure I was there, ( bit like the 60s)
John Bonham, who was all suited up had the pics taken in the car. I think they may have fired the car up, probably with strict instructions, dont touch anything.
Clive then did the run which was NOT 260 mph.

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate it. And no... no way he was going 260!!! :D Amato didn't hit that number until Gainesville 1984... bp

Thank you for the outstanding story. That's great. I'd actually like to share that on Draglist.com. May I? bp
