A big year ahead at Shakey County

You wait all this time and three come along at once...
2013 is set to be a milestone year in so many ways for UK and European nostalgia drag racing and hot rodding. Not only will it be the twentieth NSRA Nostalgia Nationals taking place at Long Marston Airfield’s Shakespeare County Raceway but also the twenty fifth anniversary of the Original Hot Rod Drags taking place all those years ago on 9th/10th September 1989.
With two major events we are naturally looking at celebrating in style. Furthermore if you add into the mix that the first ever organised quarter mile drag racing event took place at Long Marston Airfield in 1973 on the 9th September; a fortieth anniversary just four days before next year's Hot Rod Drags, and with the assistance of the British Drag Racing Hall of Fame you can now see why it will be a very special year indeed for drag racing and hot rodding fans from all four corners of the country.
“Already excitement is building for these important milestones in our heritage,” says SCR’s Jerry Cookson. “For me I’m particularly proud to have been at all three history making events so its been a privilege to see and be involved with the Nationals and the Drags over the years and especially the ground breaking days of drag racing at Long Marston when the likes of Clive Skilton and Dennis Priddle pounded the old runways in their 200 plus mph Top Fuel Dragsters.”
So book your holidays, weddings and the like with confidence. The dates are:
20th Annual Nostalgia Nationals 21st/23rd June 2013
25th Annual Hot Rod Drags 13th/15th September 2013
The track will be open at both the Nostalgia Nationals and Hot Rod Drags events on the Friday afternoon for pre ’73 Street Drags for silenced cars. Look out for more information about the celebration specials.
Thanks to all of you for your support for so many years. See you at the track.
Mark, Martyn, Steve & Alan.
