It was a chopped up Ford 100E saloon, or quite easily have been a pick-up, painted orange with a black roll bar loaded with extinguishers? If anyone has seen Time Travel 3 or 4 DVDs (I can't remember which) the truck is pictured quite a lot sitting in the middle of the track behind the startline and Stu's chequred yellow and blue roofed box. If anyone has a picture of it then its worthy of a space on this thread.
there it is Muddy (Phil Herrick pic)

Hey, there ya go. I'm sure we'll find some more photos of it in back ground of seventies magazine articles but thanks TT.

Now, does anyone know anything about this Chevy Fire Truck from the Blacktop Promotion days at Avon Park? Looks like its still on trade plates!

Muddy.
That number plate is familiar, I'm sure it was a raceteams tow vehicle before it was a firetruck.
It may have been one of these,

Nobby Hills
Graham Hawes
Martin Hannis
Barry Sheavills

Speaking of support vehicles, has anyone got pictures of the device that was constructed to deflect the blast from Sammy Miller's cars? I seem to remember it was built on to an old 4 x 4 Austin army truck chassis and has a huge vertical blast shield on the back.

It was duly reversed up behind the car and there it stayed until the dust settled. It was cleverly designed to ensure that the rear wall didn't blow out of the barn and as the older of us will clearly remember after the first run when it was distinctively brighter in the Barn than when Sammy set off- it didn't work! It was also used behind Barry Bowles' Blonde Bombshell, until they realised it really wasn't that powerful.

Also whilst on the thread of support vehicles (Sorry Stu!) Stu Bradbury's Cortina with a huge lightbar, in the days when square, brick like lightbars were definately state of the art. It appeared to stick out at each side of the car and almost needed a police escort itself as it was so wide! Only joking bud.
