not seen Garlits in a red car before but not all his cars were black i`m sure i remember seeing a picture of his his helicoptor engined swamp rat which was blue

Garlits used red for his car only the once ...1 race i believe ,he quickly went back to black.The helicopter car and the side winder are both anodized blue,,,no paint,this colour choice was probably to do with his navy backing ,,im pretty sure the helicopter engine was sourced through the navy,Don garlits at one stage considered the helicopter engine as a serious alternate to the hemi but ,just like the sidewinder attempt was a bit off the pace ,so was shelved,,,,,,,,,,,all this is in his book or the museum

First colour pic i've seen of the red car, I'd known about it through a magazine caption and accompanying b&w pic .. not a lot of colour in those old sixties mags ..

I had a picture of the "Keeling and Clayton"? California Charger Fuel dragster from Hot Rod magazine in about 1972, and that was a stunning looking car.
