Spoke to DT yesterday as their catalogue had not arrived. They said this helmet would not be a stock item-
order one and we'll get it for you Sir!! Then we spoke about this helmet being pre- drilled for Hans device
clips, tethers and different types of Hans devices. "We can sell you the clips to bolt to the helmet but we are not a FIA registered Hans Device fitter so you will have to find one and pay them to fit the clips and they then
put the FIA sticker on the helmet Sir" So when you find an FIA fitter they'll no doubt say---We only fit to the helmets we sell Sir and no we dont sell the helmet you want!!!! I am going to investigate buying a helmet from the states with a Hans device but that will have a SFI sticker.
Maybe Cunningplan can help us out on this. Just put this on here to warn anyone having to fit a Hans device
next year.

Ian Turburville fits HANS device posts to helmets, however, he has never done an open face helmet and cannot see a scrutineer passing one with the posts fitted. The Demon Tweeks links above both mention factory fitted HANS device posts fitted so I presume it is a different helmet you are after or the person you spoke to has got their facts wrong or their catalogue is incorrect...

Just looked at the link to the BELL open face helmet and it says--

SNELL SA 2005 Approved---FIA8858 approved for use with HANS DEVICE---How can a scrutineer fail that?????
Or am i missing something here???

All the ralley boys use open face helmets, a lot of them already use the hans device (My mate has for well over a year now.) and they will all need to do so soon.
As long as the fittings are fitted correctly there is no problems (To be honest, how would anyone know if the had been fitted at the factory or not?)

Thanks for the link Tony--I'll have to read that a few times to take in all the details!
I think what DT said was that they can sell a helmet pre- drilled for hans posts but it dont come with the FIA 8858 approved sticker as a factory fitted hans posts helmet does. Will ascrutineer pass a helmet without a sticker?? if you fit the hans posts yourself or get them fitted by a helmet supplier.

DT catalogue should be here tomorrow. Size may the problem- She who must be obeyed measured my head with the simpson mask on and its between xl and xxl and this helmet is xl. A trip to Wrexham to try some helmets on is on the to do list.

Please note, this is from the 2008 year book

"87. Crash helmets bearing an MSA approval sticker
must be worn at all times during training, practice and
competition. It is strongly recommended that a flame
resistant balaclava, helmet bib or face mask is also
worn.
88. It is Permitted to incorporate an FIA-approved Hans
Device fitted in accordance with FIA regulations.
89. Every user must ensure that their helmet is:
• Manufactured to the correct technical Standard
• Correctly and securely fitted
• In a serviceable condition."

(I have just checked my new 2009 one and it reads the same)
