The event was the 1966 July 31st BHRA Final Championship Qualifying Round. This is what Brian Sparrow wrote in his race report for the September issue of Drag Racing & Hot Rod magazine.
"Rex Sluggett, all the way from Bude, North Cornwall, towed along his Didge 'hemi' powered device that first showed up last October at the Woodvale Dragfest event. A complete front mounted Potvin-GMC blower kit is fitted to the 'hemi' and to this a four inch choke sidemounted Hilborn injection set up. A £75 Crower Cam kit is installed having 120 degrees overlap - this is not the kit that Garlits uses, the Crower 'Imerial' Roller kit costing all of £230!! However the characteristics of the cam profile are identical to those in the 'Wynns Chargers'. The power unit resembles that of the Allard Chrysler and in fact Allards obtained the blower set-up for Rex from Moons last summer, and Bob Keith was responsible for the flying in of the American Wheel Co., magnesium wheels on which the Goodyear 10 in. wide Cheater Slicks are mounted. Rex had terrible luck after all that safari as it is believed that a ring picked up in one of the bores when the engine ran up to eight grand on warm up. The pistons and rods are modified from standard and some racing pistons are to be flown over from the States as replacements anyway, all being well, the Duke of Cornwall' will be running by the end of the month again."
