1980. The original car is sold to London radio DJ Mike Allen and is planned to run as a econo funny car. Now repainted, renamed and in my opinion ruined the car is now called American Dream. The nitro burning Chevy is replaced with a carburetted V8 Ford.
Two pictures of the car, one in the pits at the Pod and the other from a magazine on show in September 1980
1982. The Stones Mustang version of Stardust pictured at the Santa Pod 'Big Go'
1983. Dave Stone thankfully suffers a massive fireball in the Stardust Mustang. The car is destroyed and the Stardust name is gone forever.
The remains of the Mustang funny car. 1983 was a terrible year for one of the best loved teams in drag racing. The stones not only lost Stardust but also lost there rear engined dragster called Hemi Hunter.
27.01.00 This is the body of Stardust as it is now. Sitting under a VW body shell in a corner of a barn at Santa Pod.
Finally. Don Schumacher has been in touch with about the whereabouts of the car as the car means a lot to him as it was the car he won the 1970 Nationals with. Now we all can see where the body is but does anyone know where the bottom half is. If you have any information on the car anything to add to the history of Stardust Please mail me.
