Here is the full film made at the Santa Pod Raceway 1973 July International meeting.
Features the US visitors Don Schumacher (Stardust) and Paula Murphy (Miss STP) and also Danny Johnson.
This film also shows the "Transcontenental" funny car crash and has some other more light hearted moments.
In 1972 Ian Turbuville and a few friends made a short movie at Santa Pod in 16mm film as part of his second year degree course in fine art at Nottingham University for which he got a BA hons II. Sadly the audio didn't survive but we are left with some great footage from that season.
Excellent Film from director Nick Gilby which gives us a fly on the wall look at the Dorset Horn team in the 1970' plus plenty of other great racingfootage from the era..
Trevor Gardiner made this film as part of his degree at Middlesex Polytechnic. It was funded by Gauloises with
much help from NDRC and the late great Alan Wigmore.
The technical staff were from Coles Prendergast, a small film making company doing commercial
and corporate stuff.
Some fantastic footage and interviews from Snetterton and the film finishes with Trevor and the team holding ground as Malcom Olley charges at them in the Jet Car
I don't know if we will ever see anything run down a drag strip again that was as spectacular as Sammy Miller in one of his awesome rocket powered cars. The performance of his cars was astonishing. The numbers he ran in these cars still seem unbelievable today. In Holland Sammy run the 1/8th in 1.6 sec at 307mph, he still today holds the world 1/4 mile record at 3.58 sec at 386 mph. With up to 25000 horsepower on tap and pulling up to 12g's Sammy's body would sometimes take a hour to recover after a run and with nose and ear bleeds quite common. Sadly Sammy died in 2002 in a incident unrelated to Drag Racing.
