If my memory serves me right the pictures of Alleygator with the motor torn down, was after Roy was warming up in the pits on methanol with an auxiliary tank , and then turned the pump on to switch to nitro and melted all the pistons.

5th July 1980. Santa Pod's Summer International World Series and the debut of the trans am bodied Gladiator. It was such a sleek design compared to anything else that was racing in Europe at that time and still many peoples favorite funny car today. Allan came out at 8.00am on the Saturday morning and run 6.46/214 straight off the trailer.
A 10 car fuel funny car filed that also saw the debut of Harlan Thompson and fellow American Gene Snow.
Bootsie's 6.46 was quick enough for number one spot. The meeting was cut short with rain and a timing system fault.

I should have mentioned that Ray Beadle was running at the meeting as well in the Blue Max car. In fact Lee Anders Hasslestrom hit Ray' car in round one.
And.... As mentioned below Russell Carpenter in the 7's 8)

Nothing rose tinted about this ;-) I know it wasn't always great but some people who think these are the best days of British Drag Racing just wasn't going back then.
20 Fuel FC's including The Snowman, The Snake, Tom Hoover, Harlan Thompson and all the UK's finest shoe's.
Plus a bundle of exciting Pro Comp cars and fuel bikes with Stephen Reisten running the UKs first seven second run
Bootsie sitting on top of the pile but went out in round one. Only Ron Picardo made it past the 1st round. Harlan won the event.
