myself and Martin (wing nut )Ward built the none turbo chevette in a lock up garage at the side of martins mothers house. It took us about 8 months,We had almost finished an imp altered with a Chrysler 330 Spitfire semi hemi in when Murt (steve Maltby) asked us to build the Chevette for DTV, The chassis was built of 18g steel tubing stick welded as we had no mig or tig machine in those days, the rear axle was an E type with lsd and the gear box was a straight cut ZF with 4th and 5th blanked, not the best way but everything on the car had to come from Bill Blydensteins stores to keep the costs down.the engine was originally an 8 valve slant four vauxhall as used in the first rally Chevettes but was later changed to a 2.6 stroker 16 valve ,what a little cracker it was too, before startup you had to remove the distributor and hand turn the oil pump to make sure the oilways where full, dtv usedto insist you did this and it seemed to work,it never broke and ran like a clock, will try and remember a few more bits and post on the forum when I have time cheers swee
kind of a cool day today,we had swee (swe62) at the workshop today to see the car for the first time in 20+ years.
think we might be getting the old crew back...
