The trailer was originally built in the early 70's for my dads and Tony Andersons rear engined dragster.
It went through 2 modifications to where it sits today.

Originally the roof dipped quite sharply 1/2 way along.

This was softened more with the nose extended to a point in the early 80's to allow more room inside the trailer and better streamlining. A third axle was also installed to give greater stability in towing.

And finally after being jackknifed and put on its side on the M40 (I believe) by a friend in the mid 80's, Dad extended the roof to the nose, re-panelled it and widedened the rear to take bigger tyres.

All the original structure of the original trailer chassis is still as it was with the extensions simply welded in as and when. Even some of the original red and yellow panels were used to re-panel it and can be seen inside the trailer to this day.

Whatever happened to the Commuter transporter? Here it is in Jul 1968 with Pete Billington and Tony Densham unloading the car from a trailer. Guess the little guy on the brake must be in his 50's now

Our transporter built for Goldrush Comp Altered.
We'd had our moments pulling trailers!trying to chuck off your Race Car on the Motorway is no Fun. The M1 had just been opened and had NO LIMIT and we were young!
So we built a Transporter.
A Ford Thames 15cwt pick-up, we cut the back end off another truck and added it to ours making a 6 wheeler, with the length and carrying capacity for the Pop.
It was under powered with the 4 banger so we shoe horned a 2.5L Zephyr six in, not actually true it was almost bolt in and fitted like a glove.
Made a terrific transporter, but the twin fuel tanks got the attention from the fuel tax cops, don't know what they thought we were running it on, it was petrol not diesel so it wasn't pink, they still had a good look around.
Good Old Days!
