Looking forward to it Jerry. Didn't quite make the first one in 1993, but I went to the second in 1994. Must have had a good time as I also went to the Hot Rod Drags for the first time a few months later
Following last years Nostalgia Drag Bike demonstrations at the Nostalgia Nationals Phil Steele has been in touch with news of this year’s line up, and wow what a line up assembled by the newly formed Nostalgia Drag Bike Association.
Headlining the NDBRA/NSA team is John Hobbs. What more can you say about John that hasn’t been said before. John has to be the most successful and famous Drag Bike racer of his generation. In fact John is so keen about next weeks Nostalgia Nationals that he’s bringing three bikes to the show; the legendary ‘Hobbit’, a replica of the bike that started it all off in the late sixties ‘Olympus’, and Dave Clees’ ‘Shotgun’. Dave will be acting as John’s crew chief for all three machines.
Veteran sprinter and former drag racer of some 40 years Bernie White will be riding is 1928 Douglas and will also be bringing along as a static display his blown 500cc triumph ‘Endeavour’ drag bike which hasn’t seen the light of day since 1973 after blowing the crank cases out of it crossing the finish line at Santa Pod. Seventies Street Bike racer of some 38 years Phil Steele will be on board a revitalised ‘Rouge et Noir’ Triumph drag bike along with former owner and the first Brit in to the eight’s Keith Parnell acting as crew chief.
NSA Sprinter Justin Newell will have his fantastic Hagon Weslake drag bike performing some very rapid 10 second quarters. In fact Justin’s quite an engineer having made over the winter a homemade 2 speed transmission and a hand craft supercharger based on a Wade unit. How cool is that! Shakey’s friend Jasper Joy will be riding the well known but ageless NDRC Comp Bike unblown Trident Triple ‘Mickey Taker’ formerly ridden by ‘Mr Custom Fastener’ Paul Mayhew and much later Mike Taylor hence the name Mickey Taker!
NSA Time Keeper and Tech Official Tony Pettit will be onboard one of ‘Mighty Mick’ Warne’s competitive ‘Big Blue’ drag bikes from the seventies while recreating his own bit of sixties magic will be Tim Howell on the ‘BSA UXB’ drag bike. A BSA in drag racing! Whatever next…..
And finally completing the line up will be seventies star Ray law on one of his fantastic double engine Triumphs along with another seventies racer Terry Fisher providing crew assistance...See you at the Nationals. It’s going to be a great meet. But in the meantime here's a little taster from last weekend's VMCC Wroughton meeting of Ray Law in action. Now can you really wait....
