Just as a follow up to the above here’s the latest from ESPN regarding NHRA Drag Racing coverage next week and the week beyond. The only thing I see which is quite bizarre is that the channel is only screening the full Lucas Oil Nationals race next Monday from 10.00 am. Now for those with top-up TV subscriptions on their Freeview boxes will miss this as the channel doesn’t kick in until 2.00 pm in the afternoon. Well that’s what it says on two of my boxes. I think that ESPN should move the coverage to ESPN America myself as it feels much more at home!

Monday 23rd August
00.00 - Lucas Oil Sportsman Drag Racing Series from Brainerd
20.30 - Lucas Oil Sportsman Drag Racing Series from Brainerd

Tuesday 24th August
04.30 - Lucas Oil Sportsman Drag Racing Series from Brainerd

Just had it confirmed that ESPN Uk will once again be showing the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series from beginning to end starting with the Kragan OReilly Winternationals just 24 days away. This will be in the form of highlight programs. Not sure if they are including the Lucas Oils Series, NHRA Race Day or the Pro Mod Series. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But good news anyway for fans of the American sport. :D

Always good supposing you got ESPN UK on whatever paying scheme it is these days. Whatever happened to the sport on FREE telly? Even the British/European drag racing seems to have been magically 'disappeared' the last year or two. Who wants to see multiple channels (and repeats) of Formula 1/2/3/etc, football, tennis, athletics, and even POKER??? HOW BORING! Yet, for the thousands of us who are into drag racing.......nothing. Not even the ENGLISH races. Yet (being home too much, I get a chance to) flicking around the channles, you can watch the same episode of whatever soap you name, AT LEAST three times. Then the omnimbus edition.

Maybe we should kick up, and get them to put the drag racing back on telly (free to view!!), even if it is only the Brit, or European, events. Wasn't THAT long ago they had the NHRA on one of the 5 standard terestrial channels. Is it just a matter of the money, or was it they didn't get enough viewers??

I'm with you on this Doug, but it's not a new issue; we've been here before with this lack of coverage, and those who've been around for a lonng time will recall those occasional breakthrough broadcasts, but so often it was only local TV coverage, like the Anglia reports, with its limited coverage. I can also remember too many occasions where coverage has been ruined by know nothing or ego trip presenters!
I don't think you were ranting, just reflecting the way many drag fans feel.

looks as though winternationals was fast. US army car apparently ran 327mph over 1000" Hope that run is shown over here in UK.
