For a side on shot he looks very similar to Fletch, who was crewing for Doug Herbert the last I heard.

One question deserves another:
Is that 'The Devil' behind, with what appears to be some barrier/track rash to the body?

That pic must have been taken at the 1977 Springnat's and the damage to "The Devil's" body was caused when Keith Potter launched it crossing the finish line and then gave it a temporary repair and refitted it before the next round

Norm: Sorry, I don't know who's sitting on the tailgate, just thought it might be of interest to the original enquirer 'stagecoach_son'.

Timetravel: you could be right about '77, some of the slides have probably got mixed up in their boxes over the last 30 yrs !! Careless of me!

This shot taken at Santa Pod by Brian Clark states on the reverse that this is the original 'Stagecoach'. The photo was taken in 1972. I think in the background is Bert Knight's Jag powered 'Knightmare' dragster! Can you confirm TT.

Yes you're right Muddy, in fact you can just about make out the name on the side. Stagecoach was driven by Alec Kinch in '72

Sometimes it's really freaky how coincidences can happen. Get a load of this, it relates to Stagecoach.

In the 70's I lived in a tiny village called Radwell, near Baldock in Herts. Only about 30 people at most in the whole village.

In 1975/76 I started my first 'project' a Ford Pop. I wanted a big engine. I went to Santa Pod one day after murdering a poor mint Pop with a hacksaw & Barry Sheavills had put a For Sale sign on his engine. It was the Pontiac with the 3 dual carbs all in a row. So I got it, well & truly, it was wrecked when I put it in & tried starting it.

Here's the weird bit.
Next door to my house was an elderly lady, she had a grandson called Roger Cracknell, but we'd never talked. He lived in Letchworth. By chance he was visiting his nan next door to me on the day I was trying to start the pop.
He came round, see I was having trouble, but didn't ask where the engine had come from, he asked if I wanted to buy a complete & running altered for £350. I went to his garage down a dirt track in Letchworth & there sat the first Stagecoach, renamed Highwayman. What's the chances of that ! I said no thanks lol

Here's the really weird bit.
In another thread I've told how a new guy in the village that moved in 2 doors away from me came home one day with a top fuel chassis. This was a guy I'd not talked to before. So that was 3 houses in a row that all had some independent connection with dragsters in a village of about 30 people. Bizarre.
