bond bug drag car

Do you own or know the whereabouts of a piece of UK Drag Racing History?

it is quite likely as it is missing the side doors same as metronome also the body on metronome was a special lightweight body also metronome front end was cut out would it have been worth repairing a new section on :?

I dont know if this helps, but Doogle Bug had a 1 in box section chassis with just the roll cage in tube.
I will have to make a effort and find all my photos. (Found most of my negs in the attic the other week, but due to the cold and damp are not in to good condition. I have also just got a scanner what scans negs, so will do my best to have a good look through them)

Just found this tit bit of news in the pages of a 1971 edition of ‘Custom Car‘.

‘March 21st was roll out day for Hustler Racing’s blow-ya-mind Bond Bug - an untamed little critter destined to be one of the quickest fuel altered in the land. Mark Stratton is the mastermind, Steve Cryer is the sponsor, Metronome is the name and blown and injected Chrysler hemi-power is the route. Putting that six or so litres to the ground are giant M&H Racemaster, wrapped around super wide mags. Front tyres are Michelins.'


This also appeared in the November 1973 issue of ‘Drag Racing News‘.

‘Steve Cryer came on the scene and handed Mark [Stratton] and fistful of bread and Mark again contacted Reliants. This time the result was ‘Metronome’ a 392 Chrysler powered Bond Bug with ‘some mods. Mark still has no idea why his blown Altered did not work, ‘just won of those things,’ he says. In fact the best time it ever recorded was on 6 cylinders, the other two pistons being left on the start line!’

If 'Doodle bug' was the same car it must have had a huge amount of changes made to it looking at these pictures.
I don't know if these will help find out the answer to the question but here are a few pictures of the awesome 'Metronome' anyway.

Nice pic dragamx, that must have been taken at the 1981 Santa Pod World Finals as in the foreground is Colin Gill's Jag powered Plymouth coupe altered which got itself into handling troubles on the Friday bouncing from slick to slick then crossing lanes, hitting the barrier and rolling several times. Colin was OK but the car needed a bit of work.
