A serious threat to our sport

Some on the forum may be unaware of a serious threat to all motor sport in the UK, including most classes of drag racing with the exception of road registered and insured vehicles.

Because of an accident on a farm in Slovenia, the EU is to implement a Directive forcing all Member States to impose a requirement to require all vehicles* to be insured even if they are only used on private land. This follows a 2014 ruling by the European Court of Justice that the farm vehicles involved in the accident should had been subject to compulsory motor insurance.

* All vehicles currently used uninsured on private land would be covered including mobility scooters, golf buggies, ride-on lawnmowers and, of course, any car, tractor or other motorised vehicle used on such land.

The Motorsport and Motorcycle Sport Industry Associations have stated that, in their view, the proposals "will destroy British motor sport" and are in discussions with the Department of Transport to try and minimise the impact of the Directive in the years before the UK leaves the EU.
