Kool, think I've got a copy of that somewhere too. Let's hope it's a memorable year for UK drag racing. Who knows, I may even resurrect the newsletter again, after nearly 20 years since I did the last one!

Here's some action from the first year at the Pod filmed by Ron Bailey, mainly at the BHRA British Drag Racing Championships in August...
How many famous faces can you spot???

I first went in around 69/70, never been quite sure.
Kept supporting SPR through good and bad times and I'm pleased it's got to where it is now.
Well done to everyone involved.
I wonder how many days we have spent at that place since our first visit

1988
The full programme from the Easter 1988 meeting which was just a single piece of paper.
Less than a 100 entries in total and all the big cars had been put in to a class called "Pro Drag"
A real mixture with people like Wayne Saunders and Robin Read thrown in for good measure.
It did though have 6 Fuel funnies and a load of good alcohol cars.
I loved the Funny Bike and Pro Stock bike classes back then.

For a while SPR lined the fuel cars up on the track before elims. It made for some good pictures and advertising but it sure wasted some serious racing time.
Today'd basic driver introductions are much better.

Rune and the team. Rune looks impressed as always. The lovely Liv Berstad went on to be a hugely successful business women and won Norwegian business person of the year in 2008.
