Then of course there is the B&N Automotive approach. Think I've seen pics of it at the drags in another thread but here's another one anyway - plus one of it with the body fitted for Bonneville lsr attempt. Not a good ending. Blown axle or undertray coming adrift were two of the stories about the cause of the fatal crash.

Anyone know the quickest time a slingshot twin has ever run?

I don't know either top speed or best ET, (and someone is bound to come up with something) but I have to put one of my all time favourites - the Freight Train - as up there with them; first gas car to 8's, 7's and 6's,(in 1971) and first to 200. Got to be one of the all time successful twins of all time. The car had quite a list of drivers, more than 15, perhaps the best known being Floyd Lippencotte Jnr, which was in fact an alias for Bob Muravez (I believe due to some family issues). Muravez made over 1300 runs in the car, and that has got to be some kind of record..... over 325 miles travelled in a twice motored front engine rail !!

The first slingshot into the 5's was Paul Romine's in the early '90's when the nostalgia movement started. Previously the record was held for 20 years by our Dennis Priddle at 6.04. If you check the Bakersfield results I think the present record is around 5.6 at something like 260+. Don't forget though that the rules dictate 12" slicks now!

there's a chapter on Muravez in the book Fuel and Guts and he said that when the fuel ban was on outlaw tracks would pay $500 for a Nitro car compared to $50 for Top Gas and they ran Freight Train on fuel several times,if you see a photo of the car with 2 fuel tanks it's on Nitro
