The bike entry was as big as the cars in yesteryear at York. Names like Jack Valentine, Steve Tong, Sid Sidebottom, Pip Higham and a long list of others who raced all over the UK were regular entry's.
I'd love to see the bikes back there in numbers. There have been International bike rounds there in the past for funny bike, PS .. and the likes of Sam Wills, Henk Vink, Hobbs, Jonny Munn, Rod Pallant and co have all ponded the Melbourne quarter. There is a pic in the 1/4 mile book by Steve Myatt of Henk Vinks bike on p.65. Thats me - black satin 'H' jacket next to my buddy Andy- (who took the Stampede shot Jon is running on the ukdrn image rotator about to blast off down the York qtr). My Dad is next to him, 'from the nose down we all are unfortunately'. I would of been about 12 at the time .. 81 I think it was!
