It's just a rumour then, I can't think where I heard it now. Like you say, if he had got behind the wheel, I'm sure it would have been in the papers at the time.

Thanks Nick

I guess Lord Purple this might be the picture that started this line of questioning off. As you can see Stirling is pictured by a gasser; the KS Pittman '35 Willys Coupe but I have to agree I've never seen anything in print regarding him taking some seat time behind the wheel of such a beast other than his beloved Formula and Saloon Cars.

It wasn't entered at Brighton in the 1960's, nor at the 1965 Dragfest, nor at the 1964 Dragfest at Kemble on the 3rd or Blackbushe on the 4th October.

Thanks Clive I thought it looked like the kind of circuit racer that they'd try at drag racing.

I have really enjoyed reading through this thread about the dragfest programme.
My copy of the 1964 Blackbushe programme looks a little sad, as I cut up many of the pages to put into a scrapbook I made up about Don Garlits. Oh the folly of a schoolboy! At least I still have the scrapbook, which I used for a school project - much to the bemusement of the teacher I submitted it to.
For 1965 I got the autographs of every one of the top fuel drivers at Blackbushe. Again, why did I chop bits out of the programme? Why didn't I just photocopy the bits? Ah, I remember now - they were not invented then!

Here's a fine photo (picked up from eBay this week) of TV Tom at Woodvale in 1964. No snapper's name, I'm afraid.
