This looks the like the giant wheel stand that finished the Gleadow's spell with the Motor Psycho ford pop.
The car started as the "Mangler" and after this became the first Al's Gasser of course.

Some facts from Mike Gleadow.
The Olds motor got trashed on the next run when the throttle stuck open. Then I put a 302 Chevy in it(bought from Dale Vaznaian the founder of NOS Systems no less) which ran OK for a year with a new smoothed out front end, Woolferace wheels all round funded with Castrol money. It was still financially non viable so Al bought it and the rest is history..

I've been very kindly sent some images from Ian Britton.

At 21 I was probably the luckiest young man, got to drive Hellbender, pic is us taking promo shots in '84, 2nd pic is Steve Horn on right - regular driver of Hellbender, probably thinking "you better not f*** this up", pic 3 is Geoff Bosworth firing her up and the last is me looking serious LOL smile emoticon
Was lucky enough to be part of the "Santa Pod Roadshow" going around Europe with these and others, will find the pics, what a blast we had!!

Yes, I've heard tales of these jaunts around Europe from SPR jet jockey Colin Fallows. Colin really does tell a good story! He's into bikes now, both old and new, and regularly rides with the National Sprint Association.

That's a great picture Nick.
I still think it's one of the best looking diggers the UK has produced.
Just look how wet it is
